Beats at work#
Time for music! Do you listen to music while working? I do – sometimes continuously for the whole day without a pause. On a normal working day my job in IT allows me to wear headphones most of the time. I've been doing this since… forever. Music relaxes me but also lets me concentrate on the tasks I work on. Let's dive into some free sources I'd like to recommend.
No doubt, I like a big range of music styles and genres. But: While working I prefer hard Techno music. Stomping beats with repetitive sounds and samples on a high volume help me a lot to push things forward. Other genres, especially tracks including vocals distract me too much. So I try to avoid them at all.
Here is my decent selection of some good sources of electronic music available on the Interwebs like YouTube and Soundcloud.
HATE#
HATE uploads new Techno releases every single day. And I've hardly missed anything since I start following them. Their weekly DJ set podcast with popular artists is excellent. Sometimes they publish music videos and special DJ gigs with animated visuals, too. A good start is their playlist on YouTube. They are also on Soundcloud.
Cercle#
From time to time, Cercle publishes DJ and live sets recorded at stunning locations. It's pretty hard not to get distracted from working. Definitely NSFW
Boiler Room#
Classic. They publish content from all over the world on YouTube.
Gimme more more more#
- HÖR BERLIN
- Kiosk Radio streams DJ sets from a little kiosk located in a park in Brussels.
- The Lot Radio does something similar but from New York City.
- Beatport
Festivals#
More and more Techno festivals upload their live recordings, too:
Artists#
Many DJs have their own YouTube channel. Some of them publish live recordings from their home studios. Beside of the triple-A top notch DJ pop stars there are many little gems you can find online, for example:
c3 sets#
During CCC events there is always room for good parties. c3sets covers a lot of DJ and live sets recorded on events like Chaos Communication Congress, Chaos Communication Camp or Gluschprogrammiernacht (GPN). Sets can be filtered by artists. For example, some of my sets are listed there, too.
By the way, do you already know my DJ sets on Mixcloud?
Alternatives#
Now something completely different… After a couple of hours of Techno beats my ears tend get tired. Time for some alternatives.
Lo-fi beats#
Lofi Girl runs 24/7 music streams with relaxing lo-fi beats.
Wave#
Synthwave/Cyberwave/Vaporwave/Chillwave/whateverwave is another genre which perfectly fits to my work at desk. Example: baby.murcielaga
Space Banjo#
Yeah… space banjo music is a thing.
